Endurance Training 101.

Tonight was my first session in the pool doing the endurance training, courtesy of my coach. It was hard! No I mean it , really hard.  I have to start by breath holding training which involves doing lengths and for each length you decrease the number of breaths you take. So 25m - 6 breaths, 25m - 4 breaths, 25 meters - 2 breaths and then 25m - 0 breaths ( yes that's right, 0 breaths!!) From there you go backwards - 2, 4 , 6 and then repeat for 400m! I managed the 2 breaths length but not the 0 breaths. That is going to be a challenge.

From there I went on to more 'Pyramid' training. 8 lengths - 30 sec rest, 8 lengths- 20 sec rest, 8 lengths - 10 sec rest then do it in reverse !! This was sheer torture and I actually couldn't complete it. I'm told it will get easier, so here's hoping. It can't get much harder! I did keep looking at the life guard to check if they were noticing that I was quietly drowning :-)

So now it's Wednesday night and I am shattered and off to bed. Those of you that know me, know of my daughter, Amelia, who will be 3 in August. We watch Disney films a lot and her favorite is 'Finding Nemo' or as she likes to call it 'Neno'. Today's mantra is from Dori:

  1. Are you sure you were just looking at the lifeguard for help??

  2. Very sure as the lifeguards at the pool are by no means Baywatch material!
